PS Vita: Hacked already?

That is certainly what we would be led to believe if the above video is genuine. Of course, this doesn’t have to be a bad thing; homebrew for the PSP was, in our opinion, what made it a great handheld and there is no reason the PS Vita should be any different. Homebrew videos for the PS Vita have been online since pre-launch and skeptics would lead us to believe that the end was near before the system even hit the shelves, but why?

Homebrew, to those who wish to do so, allows users to download games free of charge and play them as normal, taking money out of the pockets of the developers who worked on them. However, there are also those of us who use homebrew only for improving a system, whether it be aesthetically or via overclocking software, etc.

The video above shows the homebrew in action and though the user had to launch Motorstorm: Artic Edge in order to use it it worked; Sony removed the game completely from the PSN Store once this video became known. The hacks are not available worldwide, as of yet, so users in the US or Europe cannot take advantage of the homebrew which has become popular in Japan.

However, sources have stated that the hack is merely a PSP emulator and does not affect the Vita hardware in any way and though some have called Sony “childish” for their removal of the game required for this hack to run, we believe they have done the right thing; homebrew should wait until the PS Vita has its feet firmly on the ground before it launches. After all, we don’t want developers abandoning the system already.
